Main purpose of position
ICARDA (International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas) has received PRIMA funds under the Empowering women associations as drivers for agroecological transformation to generate income for Mountain farming communities (MountainHER) and is now seeking a qualified candidate capable of supporting the project activities. These will include the testing of germplasm of wheat and barley in a participatory approach with local communities of the Atlas Mountains. In addition, several socio-economic aspects will be studied in partnership with local and international women cooperatives for the production of traditional foods and malt products. The incumbent will also be responsible for managing the project documentations, including the reporting to the project portal and the storage of data in the pre-defined formats.

All CGIAR Centers are currently engaged into a reform process (“One CGIAR’”) that will help ICARDA and CGIAR achieve better impact through more strategically integrated research, unified governance, an integrated structure and new research modalities across participating Research Centers. This transformation is supported by CGIAR donors who have committed to increased funding as a result of these reforms.
Main responsibilities
- Follow on-farm and on-station field experiments.
- Supervise a team of field technicians to ensure best results.
- Perform surveys and roundtable conversations with rural communities.
- Support laboratory assessment of food and grains rheological, nutritional, and malting quality.
- Store all field data in adequate data management systems.
- Provide support to other project partners in need of conducting similar studies.
- Compile annual reports.
- Publish scientific articles.
- Represent ICARDA at national and international fora.
- Perform any other duty as required by the project.
Requirements
Education qualifications, and experience
- Master or PhD degree in Agriculture Science or Socio-economic discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated capability of performing research work for one or more of the following:
- Conducting participatory field research.
- Understanding of the principles of food conversion and its rheological and malting needs.
- Socio economic studies involving rural women.
- Capacity to perform and analyse survey data.
- Having at least basic training on handling project management databases and data storage systems.
- Proven ability to compile reports and/or publish research articles.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Fluency in spoken Moroccan Arabic.
Desirable Qualifications And Competencies
- Previous experience in similar projects.
- Driving license.

Terms of appointment
This is a nationally recruited staff position for which ICARDA offers an attractive compensation package including a competitive salary, medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, five months’ maternity leave, 15 days’ paternity leave. The successful candidate will be offered a contract of 2 years, the first 6 months will be a probationary period.
