Job Summary
ASARI seeks outstanding candidates for a Professor position on crop improvement and genetic breeding for fundamental and applied research in arid and desert environment. The appointed candidate is expected to develop an interdisciplinary research program that combines plant breeding with genetic tools. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach courses in plant breeding and crop improvement and train and supervise masters and PhD students.
Job Responsabilities
- Develop a nationally and internationally recognized extramurally funded research program in genetic breeding
- Lead program on seed multiplication and crop improvement using speed breeding assisted by molecular and genomic tools
- Develop and release novel lines tolerant to biotic and abiotic stress
- Supervise Postdocs, PhDs, Master’s students and interns
- Teach classes on genetic plant breeding and crop improvement
- Prepare technical reports and submit papers for publications in high ranked journals.
- Project management including budget, materials, equipment, and staff
- Organization of workshops and conferences
- Expand the collaboration network nationally and internationally
This position may involve frequent travelling to different experimental platforms and farmer’s fields at national and international level.
Qualifications And Experience
- Ph.D. in plant breeding, plant genetics, plant science, or a closely related field
- A research experience in accelerating crop improvement through genetics-enabled plant breeding
- Evidence of ability to work with other researchers in interdisciplinary team, secure external funds, and lead an innovative plant breeding program
- Demonstrated publication record in well ranked journals Ability to interact and collaborate with the interdisciplinary research teams and labs across the university
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Experience conducting research in arid and marginal environment
- Excellent expertise in statistics and database management
- Additional language skills, Arabic and French are desirable
- Supervisory experience
