World Bank Morocco Internship Program

The World Bank Morocco Office is putting in place an Internship Program starting in the Summer of 2023. 

The Internship Program offers an opportunity for students to be exposed to the mission and work of the World Bank in its Rabat office. It is designed for highly motivated students from public or private Moroccan universities who are receiving their bachelor’s degree (license) in 2023 or who are actively enrolled in a graduate study program. The Internship is designed to provide hands-on training, mentoring, and meaningful short-term employment. It will allow students to bring innovative ideas and research experience into the Bank’s workplace while improving their skills in a professional and diverse environment. In addition, students will be able to reference their World Bank internship as practical work experience and exposure. 

The selected students will be given the opportunity to participate in a project or analytical study. Students will benefit from onboarding and training, networking, mentoring, and coaching by WB staff and being a part of one of the most reputable development banks in the world. 

The Internship will be offered twice a year: Summer and Winter cohorts. The Internship opportunities are for a duration of four (minimum) to eight (maximum) weeks. Selected candidates will be offered short-term temporary contracts (STT) with specific Terms of Reference for the assignments. Interns are paid for their employment and will be hosted by the various units in the Rabat office. 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the internship, candidates must be in the process (or having received) their bachelor’s degree (license) in the calendar year 2023 or being actively enrolled in studies leading to a graduate degree (masters or doctorate). 

Students with all study backgrounds are encouraged to apply albeit most internship positions seek students with a background in economics, social sciences (anthropology and sociology) and human development, finance, statistics, agriculture, urban planning, human resource studies, marketing and communication studies, and law. The call for internships for the Summer 2023 Cohort has been launched from June 9 to June 15, 2023. All applications must be submitted by the last day of the application period to the following email addresses: sndiaye@worldbank.org and wfirachine@worldbank.org

Applications should apply to one of the opportunities listed below and should include the following: 

  • Proof of having received or being in the process of receiving a bachelor’s degree (licence) in the calendar year 2023 or active enrolment in studies leading to a graduate degree (masters, doctorate); 
  • Fluency in French; an advanced level of English is required. 
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) (1-page maximum) 
  • Motivation letter in English (1-page maximum) specifying which position they are applying for 
  • Reference letter from a university professor 

POSITIONS BEING ADVERTISED

Procurement: Data Science/Data Engineering student from a Moroccan university to participate in our Internship Program at the World Bank Morocco Office. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing data/web scraping on the Moroccan public procurement portal (www.marchespublics.gov.ma) and other portals such as the CNCP one (http://www.cncp.gov.ma/-La-Commission) and analyzing procurement statistics/trends.

Information Technology – IT: IT Services and Support student from a Moroccan university to participate in our Internship Program at the World Bank Morocco Office. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing all IT technical tasks, such as troubleshooting software and hardware issues on different devices (Windows laptops, iPhones, iPads, printers, networks, etc.), creating tickets on ServiceNow platform, as well as escalating issues and collaborating with different IT teams in DC, Chennai, and other World Bank offices. 

Marketing and Communications: Marketing/Communications student from a Moroccan university to participate in our Internship Program at the World Bank Morocco Office. The selected candidate will support the External & Corporate Relations team in Rabat with the organization of several events, media monitoring, social media, stakeholder engagement, and the preparation of messaging and creative content. 

Agriculture: agricultural engineering or agricultural economist student from a Moroccan institute to take part in our internship program at the World Bank office in Morocco. The successful candidate will support the agriculture team of the WB in the various studies and analyses carried out to strengthen the Moroccan agri-food system.

Urban: student in engineering, urban development and planning, urban economics or similar fields, from a Moroccan institute to take part in our internship program at the World Bank office in Morocco. The successful candidate will support the urban team of the WB in the technical activities carried in municipal finances, climate change and overall urban services management with a focus on data analysis and policy reviews.

Energy: Energy engineering or Energy economist student from a Moroccan institute/engineering school or university to take part in our internship program at the World Bank office in Morocco. The successful candidate will support the Energy team of the WB in the various activities related to the energy portfolio, including support to the Investment project financing projects under implementation as well as the Technical Assistance and analyses carried out to strengthen the Energy sector in Morocco.

Governance: economist/political scientist to take part in our internship program at the World Bank office in Morocco. The successful candidate will support the Governance team of the WB in the various analytical activities related to economic governance and public financial management. Candidates with a passion for public affairs, capacities to synthesize complex issues and with solid qualitative/quantitative analysis skills are welcome to apply.

Selection Process 

A Hiring committee reviews all applications. Only Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. Hiring decisions are expected to be concluded by the end of June 2023.
