Our client is well known for small fruits breeding and research.
YOUR MAIN GOALS
In consultation and under supervision of the Breeding/Site director, as our new Blueberry breeder you will be in charge of:
– Defining, deploying, and leading breeding programs, methodology and implement strategies targeting variety development accordingly with defined ideotypes
– Being a key player in research projects aiming to develop phenotyping and molecular tools to fasten and optimize breeding schemes
– Supervising and undertaking all aspects of breeding processes : hybridization, seedling, planting, crop survey, harvest, plant selection, phenotyping
– Consolidating and deploying our internal breeding software, backing up breeding steps
– Submitting progress reports to Site director reviewing main advances, improvements, perspectives, and challenges
– Acting as main collaborator for the Pre-Breeder
Ø to identify innovative traits
Ø for technology, germplasm transfer and resources implementation across breeding material and programs
– Integrating state of the art within field of expertise (breeding, agronomy, genetic, phytopathology…)
– Interacting closely with commercial/marketing teams for :
Ø understanding target markets, needs of farmers, traders, and consumers
Ø overviewing competitor’s products / breeding material
Ø being a technical support in field trials
YOUR PROFILE, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
– Master’s Degree in Agronomic or Biological science with specialization in Plant Breeding or Genetics
– Minimum 5 years’ experience in breeding or experimental breeding program management
– You need to be proficient in French and / or English. Spanish will be a plus
– Travel, both domestic and international, will be required
– Statistical data analysis applied in plant breeding
