Title: Impact of bio-stimulants on olive tree growth and production under water stress.
This call for applications is part of a PRIMA BIOMEnext research project « Modelling integrated biodiversity-based next generation Mediterranean farming systems ».
The Post-Doct will be funded as part of this project for a period of 6 months.
Post Summary
The BIOMEnext Project Morocco side Post-Doc holding a PhD in agronomy or plant biotechnology and Environment or equivalent to join the team and participate in the development of the BIOMEnext project under the heading “Modelling integrated biodiversity-based next generation Mediterranean farming systems“.
The Post-Doc conduct research, write reports and scientific papers in relation with the growth and yield of olive trees treated with biofertilisers/biostiumlants selected for their performance in increasing the tolerance of these crops to water stress under semi-controlled conditions and that of the open field.
As such, Post-Doc will develop research project tackling all aspects related to crop production testing and developing solutions and best practices to improve olive tree productivity under water stress.
Post-Doc Responsibilities
· Conduct controlled trials under greenhouse conditions testing crop responses to different investigated factors.
· Field preparation and establishment of field trials under different soil and climate conditions to improve yield and quality of olive trees.
· A good understanding and knowledge of biofertilizers/biostimulants and their mode of action to improve crop yields under water and salt stress.
· Data scheduling, collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
· Supervise PhD and Master students.
· Report writing for research project.
· Manuscript writing and publication in referee journals.
· Maintain all field and laboratory equipment, order supplies as needed, and help maintain research plot records.
Qualifications and particularities of the Post Doc
- Ph.D. in agricultural sciences, plant biotechnology and environment, agronomy, crop science, plant and soil science, or a closely related field.
- Knowledge in drought and salinity management.
- Understanding soil components and key factors affecting plant growth and yield, including analysis of enzymatic and non-enzymatic markers in plants.
- Ability to prepare and produce biostimulants (multiplication of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, isolation of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria and preparation of organic amendments and assessment of their quality).
- Optimizing crop yields through the use of adapted biostimulants and crop production under abiotic stress.
- Ability to manage water and mineral requirements of the olive tree and multi-skilling in key areas of agronomic research.
- Ability to understand crop and soil modelling and statistical softwares and data analysis.
- Good publications record in refereed journals and ability to publish scientific manuscripts with high-impact.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Experience in working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and excellent team spirit with proven ability to innovate.
